Mike Spicer Brantford, ON Death-Obituary: Director of Transit and Fleet Services has Died

The Brantford, Ontario community is mourning the loss of Mike Spicer, Director of Transit and Fleet Services, whose passing has left colleagues, friends, family members, and the public transit community deeply saddened. In honor of his memory and years of dedicated service, flags across the City of Brantford have been lowered to half-mast as the community reflects on the lasting impact he made throughout his distinguished career.

Mike Spicer was widely respected as a leader, mentor, and passionate advocate for public transportation. With more than 27 years of experience in transit systems across Canada, he dedicated his professional life to improving transportation services and strengthening the communities he served. His career began in Brantford, where he worked as Transit Operations Manager from 1999 to 2008 before taking on leadership roles with organizations including Burlington Transit, Guelph Transit, Halifax Regional Municipality, Medicine Hat Transit, WSP, Keolis Canada, and Innovations in Transportation.

After returning to Brantford in 2023 as Director of Transit and Fleet Services, Mike brought with him a wealth of experience, thoughtful leadership, and a deep commitment to public service. He played a key role in guiding important transit initiatives, including the Brantford Transit Moving Forward Plan, which focused on modernizing transit services, improving reliability, enhancing customer experience, and preparing the city’s transportation network for future growth.

Mike’s contributions to public transit were recognized across Ontario when he received the Ontario Public Works Association Operations Excellence Award — a reflection of the dedication, professionalism, and care he demonstrated throughout his career.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was known for his kindness, collaborative spirit, sense of humor, and genuine care for others. Coworkers and community members remember him as someone who deeply valued his team and cared about the people who depended on transit services every day. His leadership style inspired respect and admiration from all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
