Alan Grossman was the embodiment of selfless service. Throughout his years in public life, he demonstrated a rare combination of humility, integrity, and perseverance. Serving two terms on Borough Council and as one of the longest-standing members of the Planning Board, Alan approached every responsibility with care, thoughtfulness, and a genuine desire to make a difference. His work with the History Advisory Committee, the Metuchen Educational Foundation, and the Metuchen Borough Improvement League reflected a lifelong commitment to strengthening the fabric of his community.
Yet, beyond titles and accomplishments, Alan will be remembered for who he was at his core—a kind, steady, and generous individual who gave freely of his time and energy. He was the kind of person who worked quietly behind the scenes, never seeking recognition, but always striving to do what was right. His presence brought reassurance, his voice carried reason, and his actions consistently reflected his deep care for others.
Scouting was a cornerstone of Alan’s life and one of the many ways he left a lasting impact. As an Eagle Scout and a mentor for more than fifty years, he guided and inspired generations of young people. His leadership helped shape not only future leaders but also compassionate and responsible individuals. Receiving the prestigious Silver Antelope Award shortly before his passing stands as a fitting tribute to a lifetime devoted to service, leadership, and character.
Alan’s legacy is one that will endure through the countless lives he touched. His influence can be seen in the community he helped build, the organizations he strengthened, and the individuals he mentored. Though his passing leaves a deep void, his contributions will continue to resonate for years to come.
